Top Fluids to Replenish in Your Vehicle

If you’re looking to get the most out of your car, truck, or SUV, keep an eye on these essential vehicle fluids.

Oil

Oil keeps your vehicle’s engine running smoothly and efficiently. It’s a good idea to check the oil level and quality at least once per month, and bring your vehicle in for an oil change about every six months. However, this can vary between models, so check the owner’s manual for more details.

Coolant

Without coolant, your vehicle will overheat — potentially causing permanent engine damage. When your car is completely cool and hasn’t been running, check the coolant levels by removing the radiator cap. It’s a good idea to check coolant levels before summer and winter, and top off the coolant as needed.

Transmission fluid

Without transmission fluid, your vehicle won’t be able to change gears properly, potentially resulting in permanent transmission damage. Prevent this from happening by checking the levels monthly and replacing it every 50,000 miles, or as directed by the owner’s manual.

Brake fluid

Brake fluid provides the hydraulic stopping power you need to stay safe on the road. Make sure your car’s brake system can do its job by giving this fluid a checkup at every oil change. Keep it fresh by having it replaced every two years.

Power steering fluid

Without sufficient power steering fluid, your vehicle will exhibit creaky, difficult steering with popping noises. Give yourself a better, safer driving experience by inspecting this fluid monthly and replacing in as directed by the vehicle owner’s manual.
